Home Department Takes Action Against ADGP Ajith Kumar Over Case Diary Manipulation

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Navakerala Yatra assault case has uncovered shocking details about a conspiracy to manipulate case records at the highest levels of Kerala Police. Fresh evidence points to ADGP M R Ajith Kumar, who was the law and order in-charge at the time, as the key figure who orchestrated the suppression of evidence.

According to SIT findings, the case diary and investigation report were completely altered after two secret meetings at the ADGP’s office in Thiruvananthapuram. The DYSP Sunil Raj, who was the original investigating officer in the case involving the assault of Youth Congress and KSU workers by former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s gunmen, was summoned twice to the ADGP’s office.

The original report had documented that the assault was not part of official duty and had referenced video evidence of the attack. However, after the intervention from the ADGP’s office, the final report falsely claimed that police had not seen any video of the assault.

Opposition Leader V D Satheesan has reportedly recommended strict disciplinary action, including suspension, against ADGP Ajith Kumar. The SIT team, led by SP A P Shoukathali, has already recorded detailed statements from lower-level officers including the DYSP and concerned SI’s, and their testimonies confirm the pressure exerted from the ADGP’s office.

The SIT is now working to establish the precise role of the IPS officers involved in the cover-up. A comprehensive investigation report with concrete evidence is expected to be submitted to the Home Department in the coming days. Meanwhile, criminal proceedings are also being pursued against the four gunmen who were involved in the original assault.
