Jayakrishnan, who earned the title “Immortal King” for his powerful performances in Malayalam cinema and television, has finally addressed the question that has been on every fan’s mind: did he really abandon serials for films?
The actor, known for his timeless appearance and charismatic screen presence, said he never actually left the television serial industry. Speaking candidly, Jayakrishnan explained that his passion for cinema has always been his driving force since childhood. He considered every film opportunity a dream come true and thoroughly enjoyed each project.
According to the actor, he was fortunate to enter the serial industry during its golden era when production quality rivaled that of films. During that period, he was simultaneously working in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam — a testament to his versatility and demand across South Indian entertainment.
Jayakrishnan clarified that stepping away from serials was never a permanent decision. If interesting character roles come his way and his schedule permits, he would gladly return to the small screen. However, he noted a preference for maintaining the same disciplined approach he had developed during his serial days — a sentiment shared by many artists who transitioned from television to cinema.
The actor also highlighted the stark difference in production values between then and now. “At that time, making a serial was like making a film,” he recalled. The production quality, investment levels, and overall approach have changed dramatically. He acknowledged that modern serial production has become significantly more expensive, with higher star fees and location costs, making it a challenging business for producers to sustain.
Jayakrishnan was working on the serial “Innale” when he landed the breakthrough film role in “Nattu Rajavu” (Naatturajavu). He is best remembered for playing villainous roles across multiple films in his career. His recent candid comments have surprised fans, many of whom expressed that they never realized how humble and grounded the actor truly is.
