Jet2 Pilot Suffers Heart Attack Mid-Air, Co-Pilot Performs Emergency Landing in Porto

A Jet2 flight from Tenerife to Birmingham faced a terrifying mid-air emergency when the captain suffered a sudden heart attack at 30,000 feet. The flight, carrying 220 passengers including women and children, was cruising normally when the aircraft unexpectedly began to lose altitude.

The first officer quickly realized the captain was incapacitated and took full control of the aircraft. He declared a Mayday and received immediate clearance to divert to the nearest airport. The co-pilot’s quick thinking and precise handling averted a major disaster. The plane was successfully rerouted to Porto, Portugal, where it made a safe emergency landing. Emergency medical teams were standing by and provided immediate care to the captain before transferring him to a hospital. All 220 passengers and crew remained unharmed.
