In a heartbreaking incident in Kannur, a young SSB Border Police officer was found dead by suicide in his home on the night before his wedding. The deceased has been identified as Shabeen, son of Bharathan and Sheeba, from Munderi Mavilachal near Echor grama panchayat.
Shabeen was posted in Jammu & Kashmir as a Border Police officer under the Shastriya Seema Bal (SSB). He had returned home on leave for his wedding, which was scheduled to take place on Monday at the Makreri Ambalam temple.
On Sunday night, the family had organized a grand wedding feast for relatives and friends at Shabeen’s home. Everyone who attended the function returned after midnight. Around 12 AM, Shabeen received a phone call — reportedly from the bride-to-be. While speaking on the phone, he walked to his bedroom and locked the door from inside.
When family members came to wake him early Monday morning at around 4:45 AM to leave for the wedding photoshoot at the temple, they found the room locked from inside. Upon forcing the door open, they discovered Shabeen hanging in the bathroom.
The tragic discovery has left the entire Echor village and the family in deep shock. Shabeen’s sister Vishnu, a nurse at Kannur Sreechand Hospital, and the family had completed all wedding preparations, only to face this unexpected tragedy.
Chakkarakkal police reached the spot and completed inquest procedures. The body has been moved to the hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Police have taken Shabeen’s phone into custody and are conducting a detailed investigation with the help of the cyber cell to examine call records and chat history.
According to relatives, Shabeen appeared happy and cheerful during the Sunday night feast. The sudden turn of events has raised many questions. Police are recording statements from close friends and relatives to understand if there were any prior disputes or mental health concerns. The bride’s statement will also be recorded. A clearer picture is expected after the post-mortem report is released.
