Kerala Congress leader KC Venugopal is likely to be elevated to a key national post, potentially becoming the AICC president or working president, according to political analysts. This development is expected to create significant challenges for Opposition Leader VD Satheesan, who has been at odds with Venugopal over leadership issues.

The high command has reportedly been dissatisfied with Satheesan’s handling of the chief ministerial race in 2021, when he secured the post despite majority support among MLAs for Venugopal. With Venugopal’s likely promotion, Satheesan’s position could weaken further, as Venugopal would gain greater influence over Kerala affairs. Additionally, the ongoing leadership tussle in Karnataka, where Mallikarjun Kharge may become chief minister, could trigger a reshuffle that benefits Venugopal. The Congress’s organizational rules also mandate that Venugopal step down as general secretary after seven years, paving the way for a higher role.
