A Kerala court has denied bail to five accused in the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Thiruvananthapuram, dealing a blow to the CPM workers who had assaulted the central agency. The judicial first class magistrate court rejected the bail pleas of the accused, including Nithinraj, Manoj, Jeevan, Sreejith, and Shahin, citing the seriousness of the offense.
The attack occurred when ED officials were in the state for an investigation, and the accused allegedly threw stones and attacked them, causing injuries. The court observed that the case involves serious charges including attempt to murder and obstruction of public duty, and that the accused cannot be granted bail at this stage. The police have intensified the investigation and are expected to file a charge sheet soon, with more arrests likely. The CPM leadership, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has distanced itself from the incident, leaving the accused without political support.
