After 10 years of UDF rule in Kerala, VD Satheesan has been sworn in as Chief Minister along with 20 other ministers. These ministers are expected to make effective interventions in their respective departments, face strong opposition questions in the assembly, and prioritize public welfare. Ministers receive a basic salary of just ₹2,000, but with dearness allowance of ₹38,429 per month, constituency allowance of ₹35,000, and travel allowance of ₹17,000. In total, a minister’s monthly salary amounts to ₹97,429. In addition to this, all ministers receive full medical coverage for themselves and their families, a vehicle advance of ₹5 lakh, and a housing advance of ₹20 lakh. Ministers are also entitled to an official residence, a car, and a pilot vehicle.
As for the Chief Minister, VD Satheesan is reported to receive a monthly salary of around ₹1,50,000 including basic pay and allowances. Additionally, the CM gets official vehicles for travel, pilot vehicles for security, and special travel allowances for train and air travel. The Chief Minister and family receive completely free medical treatment. Even after completing the five-year term, the CM will receive a lifelong pension.
