The education department has released the new academic calendar, bringing significant changes for school students in Kerala. Designed to maximize instructional hours, the new schedule reduces overall holidays and introduces several extra working Saturdays, particularly impacting high school students.
According to the calendar, the first terminal (Onam) examinations are scheduled to commence on August 11 and conclude on August 21, followed by the Onam vacation from August 22 to August 30. The second terminal (Christmas) exams will begin on December 10, with the Christmas holidays running from December 19 to December 27. The crucial model exams for SSLC and Higher Secondary students are slated to begin in February, leading up to the final annual examinations in March.
Students will face a tighter schedule this academic year, with months like July and November having no public holidays at all. Additionally, several key holidays falling on weekends have resulted in fewer breaks, while Saturdays like June 27, September 26, October 24, and January 30 have been designated as extra working days for various sections, especially high schools.
