Will School Reopening Be Delayed? New Education Minister’s Announcement

The new education minister of Kerala, N Shamsudeen, has confirmed that schools across the state will open on June 1st as scheduled for the new academic year. In his first reaction after taking charge of the department, the minister stated that extensive preparatory works are in their final stages.

An urgent meeting of education department officials has been convened to ensure all arrangements are completed on time. The minister has directed officials to ensure that the School Praveshanotsavam (admission festival) and other inaugural events are organized properly.

The minister also instructed that schools and surrounding areas be thoroughly cleaned and that children’s safety be ensured with the cooperation of local self-government institutions and public representatives. On textbook distribution, the minister informed that 80% of first-phase textbooks have already been distributed and the remaining books will reach students by May 31.
