Three Arrested After Brutal Assault on Two Young Women in Kochi

Three men have been arrested by the police in connection with the brutal assault of two young women in Kochi. The victims, aged 20 and 21, who are students working part-time, were attacked by a group in Kaloor early in the morning while returning to their hostel after work.

The incident occurred around 4:30 AM when a group of around ten people, including two women, made sexually suggestive comments at the victims. When the girls questioned the remarks, the group violently assaulted them. One of the victims tried to record the harassment on her phone, but the main accused snatched and destroyed the device. The girls were dragged by their hair and kicked, resulting in serious injuries that required hospitalization at the Ernakulam General Hospital.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Akbar, the main accused and a local hotel owner, along with his employees Arun and Sabith, all hailing from Mannarkkad in Palakkad. Meanwhile, a friend of the victims has raised serious allegations against the responding police officers, claiming they victim-blamed the girls by questioning their clothing and asking why they were out late at night.
