Two young women were brutally assaulted by an eight-member gang in Kochi’s Kaloor area in the early hours of the morning. The victims, aged 20 and 21, were returning to their hostel after completing their night shift when they were targeted by the group. One of the victims sustained serious injuries after being kicked in the chest and was subsequently admitted to the Ernakulam General Hospital.
The incident occurred around 4:00 AM on Chakkalaparambu Road. According to reports, the gang—which included six men and two women—made sexually suggestive remarks at the victims. When the women questioned this behavior, they were physically assaulted. The attackers dragged one girl by her hair and kicked her, while also destroying a mobile phone when she attempted to record the incident.
Following the attack, the victims faced further distress at the hospital when the responding North Police officers allegedly questioned their clothing and asked why they were out late at night. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case under non-bailable sections, including outraging the modesty of a woman, and are analyzing CCTV footage to identify the suspects. The Station House Officer (SHO) has also promised an inquiry into the allegations of insensitive behavior by the police personnel.
