Kozhikode Tragedy: Pregnant Woman Burned Alive in Car Amid Shocking Revelations

A devastating incident in Kozhikode’s Perambra has left the state shaken, as 27-year-old Sona, who was six months pregnant, was burned alive inside a car. What initially appeared to be a tragic accident has taken a dramatic turn, with forensic evidence revealing the presence of petrol inside the vehicle.

Sona’s family has leveled serious allegations against her husband, Rijin Lal, accusing him of relentless physical and mental abuse. According to relatives, Rijin had been harassing Sona over an alleged extramarital relationship and even demanded a DNA test to prove the paternity of her unborn child. On the day of the incident, Sona had sought refuge at her aunt’s home, but Rijin reportedly called her repeatedly, leading to heated arguments.

However, the case took a crucial turn when CCTV footage emerged showing Sona herself purchasing petrol from a nearby pump shortly before the incident. Police have confirmed that Sona bought the petrol while briefly separated from her aunt’s daughter during a shopping trip. The post-mortem report also confirmed traces of petrol on Sona’s body.

Rijin’s father, Rajan, has come forward defending his son, claiming the couple had been living happily for the past three years. He questioned why Sona’s family remained silent for so long if she was truly suffering, and alleged that Sona deliberately bought the petrol to frame his son.

The forensic team has confirmed that the fire started from inside the car, not from a short circuit. While Rijin escaped with minor injuries, Sona was trapped inside due to the central locking system and burned to death. Sona’s family remains firm that this was a premeditated murder orchestrated by Rijin, despite her having purchased the petrol herself.

Police have intensified their investigation into the domestic violence allegations raised by Sona’s family. Rijin Lal, who is currently hospitalized with serious burns, is expected to be questioned in detail once his condition improves.
