Indian National Killed in Kuwait Airport Attack Amid Escalating US-Iran Conflict

An Indian national was killed and several others were injured following a series of retaliatory airstrikes launched by Iran targeting US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. The attack caused significant damage to the main terminal of Kuwait International Airport, leading to a temporary suspension of flights and the declaration of an emergency at the facility.

The escalation began after the US military intercepted and struck a Botswana-flagged oil tanker, MT Lexy, which was attempting to bypass US sanctions at an Iranian port. In retaliation, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) withdrew from ceasefire talks and launched coordinated strikes using ballistic missiles and one-way attack drones against US military installations in the region, including the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain.

While US Central Command and Kuwaiti air defense forces claimed to have successfully intercepted several incoming missiles and drones using Patriot defense systems, the debris and explosions caused widespread panic. In Kuwait, local residents—including a large Malayali community living in areas close to the airport like Abbasiya—reported hearing loud explosions and sirens that lasted for over an hour. Bahrain also temporarily closed its airspace and issued safety warnings to its citizens as tensions peaked.
