Following the announcement of a new political movement by former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai, Latha Rajinikanth, the wife of superstar Rajinikanth, has launched a new social platform called “Makkal Medai” (People’s Forum). Latha Rajinikanth invited anyone interested in social welfare to join the platform. This official announcement came immediately after Annamalai mentioned Rajinikanth’s name during his press conference, sparking intense political curiosity in Tamil Nadu.
During his announcement, Annamalai stated that he had entered the BJP with Rajinikanth’s blessings. However, political observers note that Latha Rajinikanth’s swift launch of an independent social movement indicates that Rajinikanth is not associated with Annamalai’s new venture. Annamalai revealed that his decision to leave the BJP stemmed from differences with the central leadership, particularly regarding his recommendation that the party contest the Tamil Nadu assembly elections alone. His new movement, operating under the banner “The Movement Belongs to the People” through his existing “We the Leader” initiative, reportedly gained over five lakh members within its first few hours.
In a related development, Tamil Nadu BJP State Secretary Sumathi Venkatesh has also resigned from her post and severed her ties with the party. She is the third prominent BJP leader from the state to exit recently. Expressing her gratitude to both national and state leaders for their support during her tenure, she stated in her resignation letter that she was leaving with a heavy heart after deep deliberation, though she has not yet disclosed her future plans.
