In a double blow to consumers in Kerala, the prices of Milma milk and commercial LPG cylinders have been increased starting today. While the price of Milma milk has gone up by ₹4 per liter, the price of commercial cooking gas cylinders has been hiked by ₹46. Domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged, providing some relief to households, though the commercial hike is set to impact businesses heavily.
Under the revised Milma rates, curd prices have also increased by ₹10 per kilogram. Due to a delay in printing new packaging, the milk will initially be distributed in older packets with the previous prices printed on them, but customers will be charged the newly revised rates. Other dairy products, including ghee, are also expected to see price hikes in the coming days.
The simultaneous rise in milk and commercial gas prices is expected to trigger a general price hike in hotels and local eateries. Small tea shop owners have already expressed concerns, with many raising the price of a cup of tea from ₹12 to ₹15 to cope with the rising operational costs, stating they cannot sustain their business without passing on the costs.
