Family of BSF Jawan Nelson Awaits Answers 16 Years After His Disappearance

The family of D. Nelson, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan from Kollamcode in Kanyakumari district who served the nation for 21 years, continues their painful wait 16 years after he mysteriously disappeared. Nelson went missing on December 4, 2010, at the age of 41, while returning home from Kolkata, West Bengal, following his retirement from the service. Despite extensive investigations over the years, his family remains completely in the dark regarding his whereabouts or survival.

Nelson disappeared within the jurisdiction of the Beniapukur police station in Kolkata. Although the local police and the Lal Bazar Missing Persons Squad conducted a wide-ranging search, the final investigation report recently received by the All India BSF Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association indicates that the chances of finding him are now extremely slim. Apart from the standard legal pension, the family has not received any special humanitarian assistance or financial relief from the authorities.

Highlighting the plight of the family, the All India BSF Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association has urged the government to intervene. The association’s General Secretary, G. Balakrishnan, confirmed that petitions have been submitted to high-level authorities, including the BSF Director General, the Union Home Ministry, the National and State Human Rights Commissions, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, and the Kanyakumari District Collector. The association demands that the government clarify the jawan’s status and provide necessary humanitarian aid to his struggling family.
