A 19-year-old woman who gave birth in a toilet at Haripad Taluk Hospital and threw her newborn out of a window has told the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) that she does not want the baby. The woman, currently undergoing treatment at Vandanam Medical College Hospital, was visited by officials who recorded her statement.

The woman claimed she was unaware of her pregnancy and said she is no longer in a relationship with her boyfriend, who is from another state. She stated that he is unaware of the pregnancy and delivery. The baby, weighing 2.9 kg, miraculously survived the fall without injuries and is healthy. The infant will be moved to a children’s home after the mother is discharged, where it will be cared for for 60 days. During this period, the mother can reclaim the child; after that, she loses the right. A case has been registered against the mother for attempted murder. The CWC has also decided to take legal action against those circulating the baby’s image on social media.
