Navakerala Bus Driver Statement Contradicts CM Security Team Defense

In a major setback for Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his security team, the driver of the Navakerala Sadas bus has testified that no attack was made on the vehicle during the protest in Alappuzha. The statement given by the driver, Abhilash, to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) directly contradicts the defense of the accused security personnel, who claimed they beat KSU and Youth Congress protesters to protect the bus and its occupants.

Further corroborating the driver’s statement, a KSRTC mechanical engineer testified that the specially designed bus sustained no damage during the incident on December 15, 2023. Meanwhile, a medical board report revealed that the heavy canes used by the security team to beat protesters, including KSU district president and current MLA AD Thomas, were capable of causing fatal injuries. Based on these findings, the SIT has added charges of attempted culpable homicide against the accused security officers.

The emerging evidence has intensified political pressure on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, with opposition groups demanding accountability. While the accused security personnel face potential suspension or dismissal, critics point out that the Chief Minister continues to employ the controversial gunman despite the serious criminal charges.
