The tragic death of a one-and-a-half-year-old child, Arshid, in Nedumangad due to severe physical abuse has triggered widespread public outrage. The main accused, Ashkar, along with the child’s mother, Akhila, is facing intense scrutiny as shocking details of past domestic violence and systemic negligence continue to emerge.
Following the arrest, the family of Ashkar’s first wife, Amina, came forward with grave allegations. Amina’s mother revealed that Ashkar had brutally assaulted her daughter, a cancer patient, in the past. Despite filing multiple complaints at the Nedumangad police station with the assistance of a local panchayat member, the police allegedly sided with the accused and failed to take timely action, which could have prevented further tragedies.
Further details reveal that the deceased child’s paternal grandfather had spent months trying to secure custody of the toddler after the child’s biological father passed away. However, these efforts were reportedly blocked by Akhila and Ashkar, with the alleged involvement of a dance teacher who introduced the couple. Neighbors also recalled seeing signs of severe abuse, including burns on the child’s feet and instances of the toddler crawling with fractured limbs, raising questions about why earlier warnings were ignored.
