The brutal murder of a 1.5-year-old child in Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram, has sent shockwaves across Kerala. A post-mortem examination revealed 51 injuries on the child’s body. The mother, Akhila, and the stepfather, Askar, have been arrested in connection with the death.
Days before the murder, a viral video showed the child with both hands fractured. In the video, the mother claimed the injuries were from a cycle fall. However, the child’s grandfather has now stated that Askar regularly abused the child. Askar allegedly confessed to killing the child because he cried while being fed, admitting to hitting his head against a wall and burning him with a lighter.
Details of Askar’s previous cruelty have also emerged. His first wife, Aamina, is bedridden with memory loss after severe beatings. Aamina’s mother, Shajila Beevi, alleged that Askar and his family brutally assaulted her daughter, including banging her head against a wall and attempting to hang her from a fan. The public attacked Askar during evidence collection, requiring police intervention.
