A horrific incident of child abuse has shaken Nedumangad, Kerala, following the tragic death of a one-and-a-half-year-old toddler. The postmortem report has revealed extreme physical torture, indicating that the child’s death was primarily caused by a brutal kick to the chest. The impact of the assault was so severe that it fractured seven of the child’s ribs, leading to fatal internal injuries.
Investigators found 51 wounds across the child’s body, along with five instances of swelling on the head due to trauma. The child’s mother, Akhila, and her partner, Ashkar, allegedly tortured the toddler because they viewed him as an obstacle to their life together. Following the death, the duo attempted to destroy evidence by burning the child’s belongings, including medical bandages, and initially lied to the police by claiming the child’s injuries were from an accidental fall.
The police have arrested Ashkar under murder charges and the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, while Akhila faces charges of abetment for concealing the continuous abuse. Neighbors and relatives revealed that the child was frequently neglected, left alone in their rented house, and even placed in dangerous spots like the terrace. Despite relatives previously offering to adopt and care for the toddler, the couple refused, ultimately leading to this tragic outcome.
