The Odungakkad Maqam in Thamarassery, at the foothills of the Wayanad ghat road, is the resting place of the great saint Syed Hussain Dilliya, popularly known as Hussain Thangal. Born in Delhi, he was the second son of Syed Ali Akbar Dillikoya Thangal of the Varambetta Maqam. Hussain Thangal was a majdhub (spiritually absorbed saint) from a young age, and he spent many years in solitude engaged in worship.
The video讲述 the extraordinary power of reciting Surah Al-Fatiha seven times as a vow (nercha) dedicated to this great saint. According to the speaker, whoever recites seven Surah Fatiha with the intention of a vow in the name of Hussain Thangal will have all their problems solved by the will of Allah.
There is a famous story connected to this maqam. One night during a fierce storm, Kunjutti Ali, a prominent local man, was instructed in a dream to go and light a lamp at the maqam. He obeyed, but worried that the lamp would be blown out by the strong wind and rain. When he returned at dawn, he was astonished to find the lamp still burning brightly despite the severe weather. This is considered one of the great karamat (miracles) of Hussain Thangal.
Later, Kunjutti Ali and his family purchased the land from the Kottayam royal family, and a mosque was built in 1948-51, which was eventually handed over to a committee. Today, thousands of people visit this maqam as a refuge for their problems.
People make vows at this maqam for various needs: relief from illness, repayment of debts, successful marriage, children for those struggling with infertility, protection from black magic (sihr), evil eye (nazar), and jealousy. Travelers making the Wayanad ghat road journey often make a vow at this maqam before starting their ascent, believing it guarantees a safe journey without accidents.
For those who cannot visit the maqam in person, reciting seven Surah Al-Fatiha as a vow in the name of Hussain Thangal from wherever they are is sufficient. If possible, one may also vow a charitable amount that they can afford. Those who are able should visit the Odungakkad Maqam in Thamarassery, perform ziyarat, and seek blessings.
