Pang GLP School is stepping into the new academic year with hope and resilience, overcoming the deep sorrow of the tragic Valparai vehicle accident that claimed ten lives, including five of its beloved teachers. The local community, teachers, and authorities have come together to transform the school into a vibrant space, ensuring a welcoming environment for the returning students.
The tragedy occurred on April 17 during a pleasure trip to Valparai in Tamil Nadu, where a vehicle carrying the school staff met with an accident. The victims included the headmistress, four other teachers, the school cook, her son, and the driver. The incident left the entire village of Pang in deep mourning, leaving only one teacher surviving from the school’s previous staff.
To help the school recover, Kuruva Panchayat has initiated renovation works worth ₹30 lakhs. Additionally, the KSTA has launched the ‘Smrithilayam’ project to upgrade the pre-primary section to international standards, featuring air-conditioned classrooms and modern learning spaces. New teachers—P. Shameela, K. Abdul Majeed, V.P. Faseela, and K.K. Ragi—have assumed charge, while K. Ahmed Kutty has taken temporary charge as the headmaster. Local organizations and banks have also contributed by distributing free school bags, uniforms, and study materials to the children.
