The General Administration Department (GAD) has disconnected the official mobile phone number used by former Chief Minister and current Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan for the last ten years. The action was taken without any prior notification, sparking criticism and protest within the CPM.

The mobile number, starting with 9447, was officially allocated to him during his tenure as Chief Minister. While disconnecting official numbers after a term ends is a standard administrative procedure under the GAD—currently under Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan—the failure to inform the user beforehand has drawn sharp objections. With the official number deactivated, only Pinarayi Vijayan’s personal mobile number remains active.
