Internal Turmoil Mounts in CPM as Demands Rise for Pinarayi Vijayan to Step Down

Reports suggest that the CPI(M) may soon demand the resignation of Pinarayi Vijayan as internal discontent reaches a boiling point across various party committees. Following historic electoral setbacks and controversial leadership decisions, party workers and local committees from the branch to the state level are reportedly expressing strong dissatisfaction with Vijayan’s centralized control over the party machinery.

The unrest has intensified following recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids targeting the leader’s daughter. Party workers who clashed with investigators in defense of the leadership feel abandoned after Vijayan publicly praised the ED officers, leaving local cadres to face severe legal consequences. Furthermore, questions are being raised within the party regarding the strategic sidelining of prominent leaders like K.K. Shailaja, Shamseer, and the Jayarajans, which critics claim was done to consolidate power within a close circle.

With major cases like SNC-Lavalin, gold smuggling, and the Life Mission scam still pending, lower-level party units fear the complete erosion of the party’s base in Kerala. A powerful faction from Kannur has reportedly initiated moves to strip Vijayan of his dominant position to prevent further damage to the organization, signaling a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
