During the state-wide launch of the Priyadarshini free travel scheme for women in KSRTC ordinary buses, an unexpected accident occurred in Kollam when hot payasam (sweet pudding) accidentally spilled over Minister Bindu Krishna. The incident took place inside a heavily crowded KSRTC bus at the Kollam depot, where supporters and media had gathered to celebrate the inauguration of the welfare scheme.
The mishap occurred during a payasam distribution organized by the Youth Congress district leadership inside the bus. As the minister was traveling with supporters, someone tried to pass a glass of hot payasam through the dense crowd. In the commotion, a woman chanting slogans accidentally bumped into the person holding the pudding, causing it to spill directly onto the minister’s head, face, and body. Although she was visibly distressed by the heat of the liquid, party workers quickly helped clean it up using handkerchiefs and her shawl. Reports confirm she did not sustain any burns and later continued her journey to Chinnakkada.
The Priyadarshini scheme, which offers free travel to women and transgender individuals, was officially inaugurated earlier in the day by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan at the Thampanoor KSRTC complex in Thiruvananthapuram. Part of the UDF government’s election promises under the Indira Guarantee, the scheme applies to 3,225 ordinary buses, including city ordinary and Gramavandi services. Special tickets will be issued to female passengers to estimate the subsidy amount that the government needs to reimburse KSRTC.
