The United Democratic Front (UDF) government has officially launched its highly anticipated free travel scheme for women, fulfilling one of its key election promises. The service, named the ‘Priyadarshini’ free travel scheme, commenced operations on June 15 at 9:00 AM, marking a significant milestone in public transport and women’s empowerment. Special KSRTC buses carrying “Priya Priyadarshini Sthree Soujanya Yathra” boards have been deployed to help passengers easily identify the free services.

This initiative, which is part of the ‘Indira Guarantee’ program, has been met with immense enthusiasm from the public, particularly working women who previously struggled with daily commuting expenses. On the inaugural day, passengers expressed their happiness and gratitude, noting that the implementation of this promise brings major financial relief. Notably, some of these special services feature women drivers at the wheel, adding to the symbolic and practical empowerment of the initiative.
