The swearing-in ceremony of the new UDF government led by Chief Minister VD Satheesan at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Stadium witnessed an overwhelming turnout of supporters and leaders from all walks of life. Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan and other opposition party leaders also attended the historic event marking the transfer of power.
Rahul Mankoottathil, former Palakkad MLA and Youth Congress leader, arrived at the venue to a rousing reception from party workers. Enthusiastic supporters thronged around him, with many seeking selfies, creating a lively atmosphere at the stadium. Speaking to the media, Rahul addressed the controversies and party actions against him with clear political positions. He stated that even if the party expels him, he will always remain a Congressman. He described the UDF’s massive victory as the people’s recognition of the uncompromising struggles the party had waged over the past years.
When asked whether he prefers being a people’s representative or a party office-bearer, Rahul said he would always prioritize being an office-bearer. He emphasized that his politics of speaking openly would continue, asserting that his clarity is not driven by a desire for positions. Rahul dismissed questions about his comeback, noting that he had never left, and stated that political activity is not limited to becoming an MLA or MP.
Regarding the court cases against him, Rahul pointed out that the chargesheets were filed during the tenure of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, whom he described as full of love and care for him. He said the rest would be seen in court, hinting that many things reported by the media would need correction once the legal battle concludes.
Meanwhile, a notable incident at the ceremony involved Rini Ann George, who has been active on social media posting critically about Rahul’s character. When she arrived at the venue, Congress workers collectively booed her. Rini, who shares a close personal relationship with Chief Minister VD Satheesan, had earlier posted on Facebook referring to the Padmanabha Swamy temple and had shared a photo with Ramesh Chennithala recently. Her presence at the ceremony was met with strong disapproval from Congress workers.
