A tragic incident from Kozhikode has taken a dramatic turn. Sona, a 27-year-old pregnant woman, died in a car fire near Perambra, and initial suspicion fell on her husband Rajin Lal. But CCTV footage has now revealed a shocking truth — Sona herself bought petrol minutes before the fire.
On the evening of the incident, Sona and her husband Rajin Lal had visited her aunt’s house in Valikkode. After dropping her off, Rajin Lal left. Later, Sona went to Perambra town with her cousin to shop. It was during this time that she secretly went to a petrol pump and bought petrol in a can, hiding it in a large bag she had brought from home.
That night, as she and Rajin Lal were driving back home in the car, Sona poured the petrol inside the vehicle and set it on fire. Rajin Lal, who was in the driver’s seat, suffered 60% burns and is currently in critical condition at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.
Police investigations revealed that the fire started from the back seat. The driver’s side had more burn injuries on the back of Rajin Lal’s body, consistent with the fire starting behind him. The petrol can cap was also recovered from inside the car.
Sona had reportedly confided her mental distress to her sister before the incident. However, Rajin Lal’s family insists that Sona was happy in her married life and was treated like their own daughter. They claim there were no issues between the couple.
Rajin Lal’s father also alleged that Sona had attempted suicide before, and that she had married Rajin Lal only after filing a case. The family is now demanding that police release the full truth, insisting that the CCTV footage proves their son’s innocence.
