In a major breakthrough in the Kozhikode car fire case, police have confirmed that the petrol used to set the vehicle ablaze was purchased by the deceased Sona herself. The pregnant woman died after her car caught fire in the Perambra area of Kozhikode.
CCTV footage obtained by the police showed a woman purchasing petrol in a can from a nearby pump. Initially, the identity of the woman in the footage was unclear, but after showing the visuals to Sona’s relatives, they confirmed it was indeed Sona.
The investigation revealed that the car had no mechanical defects. Forensic experts found no evidence of a fuel leak, no damage to the engine area, and no electrical short circuit that could have triggered the fire. The only significant finding was the presence of petrol inside the car cabin, which led investigators to suspect foul play.
Earlier, suspicion had fallen on Sona’s husband, with her family alleging it was a murder. However, after analyzing Sona’s movements on the day of the incident, the police have now concluded that the husband had no involvement in the incident.
On the day of the incident, Sona was at her aunt’s house from morning. In the evening, she went shopping with her cousin. During this time, she stopped at a petrol pump and bought petrol in a can. Later, around 7:30 PM, her husband took the car out, and the fire occurred.
The post-mortem and forensic reports confirmed the presence of petrol inside the car, leading police to believe that Sona herself may have set the fire. The case has taken a dramatic turn with these revelations.
