Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi has gifted a brand new autorickshaw to Ganga, a daily wage laborer from Idukki, fulfilling a promise he made to her when she shared her struggles of being denied a bank loan. Alongside this personal gesture, the minister also reiterated his strong stance on bringing an AIIMS to Kerala, stating that he would quit politics if the project does not materialize.
Ganga, a resident of Bison Valley in Muttukad, had been working in cardamom plantations for over twenty years to support her family, as her husband has been bedridden for the last 13 years due to lifestyle diseases. Seeking self-employment, she had applied for a Mudra loan seven years ago but was rejected by bank officials. Last September, she travelled around 130 kilometers on a scooter to meet Suresh Gopi at an event in Moolamattom, where she shared her plight. Upon hearing her story, the minister promised to buy her an autorickshaw, which has now been delivered to her from a showroom in Adimali.
In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Suresh Gopi addressed key political issues, demanding that the state government recommend Thrissur and Idukki for the proposed AIIMS under the new guidelines so it can be included in the upcoming budget. He also criticized the Kerala state government regarding fuel price hikes, questioning why the state has not taken steps to reduce its tax on petrol to ease the burden on citizens, suggesting that the state should lower its taxes instead of shifting the blame.
