In a heartwarming act of humanity, a local tea vendor in Tripunithura, Kerala, has won widespread praise for sacrificing his own dhoti to cover a woman whose clothes were completely torn after being dragged under a private bus in a road accident. The incident occurred at the busy Statue Junction when the woman unexpectedly fell under the front wheel of the bus and was dragged for several meters before the vehicle was stopped and reversed by onlookers.
The savior, M.R. Shaji, a resident of Kizhakke Kotta who has been selling tea in the area for nearly 40 years, was nearby distributing tea when he heard a loud noise. Upon rushing to the spot, he saw the crowd lifting the severely injured woman, who was wearing a churidar. Due to being dragged along the rough road surface, her lower garments were completely torn off, leaving her exposed. Sensing the urgency and prioritizing her dignity over his own, Shaji immediately took off his dhoti to wrap around her so she could be safely transported to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw.
Following his selfless act, a worker from a nearby supermarket quickly brought Shaji a new dhoti, allowing him to resume his daily routine. It was later revealed that the woman suffered a hip fracture and underwent surgery, though her helmet protected her head from major injuries. The incident came to light after CCTV footage of the accident and Shaji’s noble gesture surfaced online, leading to a flood of appreciation calls from friends, family, and strangers alike.
