Technopark IT Manager Arrested for Growing Cannabis inside Flat in Thiruvananthapuram

The Sreekaryam police have arrested a 26-year-old IT company manager for cultivating an indoor organic cannabis plantation inside his apartment in Thiruvananthapuram. The accused, identified as Vishal, a native of Haryana, works as a manager at a prominent IT firm in Technopark with a monthly salary of around ₹1.5 lakh. He reportedly managed the illegal plantation during his leisure hours after work.

The arrest was made during a lightning raid conducted by the police as part of ‘Operation Toofan’, a state-wide crackdown on drug syndicates. Acting on a tip-off about suspicious activities, officers searched Vishal’s flat and discovered an advanced indoor setup featuring around 70 cannabis plants. He had been growing them organically in large pots filled with high-quality soil and compost inside his room, keeping them hidden from outsiders.

During interrogation, Vishal claimed that the cannabis was cultivated strictly for his personal consumption and not for sale. He explained to the police that he used the young leaves of the plants to make chutney and blend into milk, adding that he was unaware of the severe legal consequences in Kerala since cannabis use is more common in northern states like Haryana. The Sreekaryam police have taken him into custody and are proceeding with further legal actions as part of the state’s intensified anti-drug campaign.
