Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Demolishes Illegal CPM Party Office

The Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has demolished an illegally operating CPM party office at the Alathara Mini Civil Station. Under the direction of Mayor V. V. Rajesh, corporation employees and the health squad cleared the unauthorized structure, which had encroached upon a public pathway.

The structure was originally built as a help desk to assist the public during the COVID-19 pandemic. After the pandemic, local CPM leaders converted it into a party office by blocking a pathway adjacent to the civil station and installing sheet roofing. During the eviction, corporation officials removed party flags, banners, notices, and symbols from the site. Reports also emerged that illegal electricity connections were drawn to the structure, and footage of a party leader consuming alcohol inside the premises had surfaced.

Kadakampally ward councillor Jaya Rajeev stated that the corporation had previously issued notices asking the party to vacate the space for a public welfare project, but received no response. The councillor also highlighted corruption regarding nine nearby shop rooms, which were rented cheaply from the corporation and sub-leased to others for tens of thousands of rupees. Mayor V. V. Rajesh has notified merchants that these shops will be re-auctioned. This eviction follows recent anti-encroachment drives by the corporation, including actions taken at the Palayam market.
