A tenth-grade student and his friend have been arrested in Thiruvananthapuram with 10 kilograms of ganja. The arrest was made jointly by the City DANSAF team and the Fort Police. The accused have been identified as Balaramapuram natives, including Muhammed Azharuddin and the minor school student.
The arrest comes amid intensified inspections near schools following the launch of “Operation Toofan,” an official initiative by the Home Department aimed at uprooting the drug mafia targeting students. The police, excise department, and school authorities have been conducting widespread searches in and around school campuses since schools reopened.
The police are currently investigating the source of the seized contraband. Authorities are also looking into whether the minor student was being used as a carrier or if he was coerced into the illegal trade. Due to legal protections for minors, the police have withheld further details regarding the student’s identity.
