Three Senior Staff Suspended After Nurse Attempts Suicide in Thodupuzha Hospital

Three senior staff members at Smita Hospital in Thodupuzha have been suspended following a suicide attempt by a nurse, who also serves as the unit secretary of the United Nurses Association (UNA). The nurse, who was reportedly driven to the extreme step due to persistent mental harassment by her seniors, is currently recovering in the ICU, and her condition is reported to be stable.

Following intense protests led by the UNA, the hospital management convened a meeting involving public workers and youth organizations. A five-member inquiry committee, acceptable to the hospital staff, has been formed to investigate the matter. The committee is scheduled to submit its report by the 14th of this month, and the management has assured that the accused will be permanently terminated if found guilty.

UNA State President Shobi Joseph stated that the organization had previously informed the management about the difficulties coworkers faced while working with these senior staff members. He added that several current and former employees have also raised complaints against these individuals, and the association demands that all prior complaints be thoroughly investigated.
