An elephant brought to Thrissur for a festival went rogue in a residential area, causing widespread damage. The incident occurred near Chembukkavu Town Hall on Friday morning around 9:30 AM.
The elephant, named Shivam Lakshmi Ayyappan, was brought from Kollam for a local festival. While being taken for a bath, it suddenly broke loose and ran amok, damaging cars, auto-rickshaws, motorcycles, and house gates along its path.
CCTV footage captured the elephant running through the streets as panicked residents fled. The elephant ran approximately two kilometers from Chembukkavu to Cherur Gandhinagar, entering the Gandhinagar Housing Colony where it continued its rampage through the narrow lanes.
For about two hours, the elephant created panic in the housing colony before police, the Elephant Squad, and Forest Department officials arrived at the scene. Mahouts and squad members worked extensively to finally restrain the elephant by chaining its legs.
