BJP Leader V Muraleedharan Faces Criticism Over Sweet Distribution Method at School Reopening Event

BJP leader V. Muraleedharan has drawn severe criticism on social media following an incident during the school reopening ceremony (Praveshanolsavam) at Kattela Government Tribal LP School in Thiruvananthapuram. Instead of handing sweets directly to the children, he reportedly emptied a packet of candies onto a table and asked the students to pick them up themselves.

The incident, which took place in a school primarily attended by children from marginalized and tribal communities, has sparked widespread outrage. Former Education Minister V. Sivankutty strongly condemned the act on Facebook, describing it as a reflection of an “upper-caste mindset” and an insult to the dignity of the children. He also criticized Minister Thulasi, who was present at the event, for not intervening or correcting the action.

Meanwhile, supporters of the BJP defended the action, claiming that the leader emptied the packet on the table so that the children could freely take as many candies as they wanted. Neither V. Muraleedharan nor the BJP leadership has officially responded to the ongoing controversy.
