Vastu Shastra: Plants and Trees You Should Never Grow Near Your Home to Avoid Bad Luck

According to Vastu Shastra, growing certain plants and trees in and around the household can bring severe misfortune, financial ruin, and endless sorrow, particularly to the women of the family. Astrological guidelines suggest that keeping negative-energy-inducing plants in specific directions or zones of the house can disrupt peace of mind, lead to chronic health issues, and cause mounting debts.

Key restrictions include avoiding bitter-fruiting plants like bitter gourd or Kanjiram on the northern side of the house, where only sweet or sour fruits should be planted to prevent poverty. Similarly, the sacred Northeast corner (Ishana Kon) must be kept free of thorny plants like cacti and roses, as well as Money Plants, which should instead be placed in the Southeast, West, or central North. Furthermore, holy plants like Tulsi, Mandaram, and Turmeric should never be planted in the Southwest corner (Kanni Mula), as it is considered an “Asura” direction where sacred plants wither the household’s prosperity.

The guidelines also warn against planting Mussaenda (Mussanda) and lemon trees (Narakam) close to the house, as they are historically linked to extreme debt and wealth depletion. Popular decorative Bonsai plants are highly discouraged because their stunted growth symbolically restricts the progress of the youth in the family and generates negative energy. Additionally, everyday utility plants like Moringa (Muringa) and Curry Leaf (Kariveppu) should never be grown adjacent to the household well, as this specific placement is believed to cause chronic illnesses and distress for the women in the house.
