Vava Suresh Discharged from Hospital, Shares Painful Experiences of Discrimination

Renowned snake catcher Vava Suresh has been discharged from the Kottayam Medical College hospital after recovering from a critical cobra bite. Describing his recovery as a second lease on life, Suresh expressed his gratitude to the medical board and doctors for providing him with the best possible treatment. Despite the life-threatening incident, he firmly declared his intention to continue his lifelong mission of catching snakes and saving lives.

With over 35 years of experience, Suresh has traveled across Kerala at his own expense to rescue venomous snakes, helping people overcome their fear. However, this journey has been filled with painful personal experiences. Suresh revealed that despite his selfless service, he has often faced severe discrimination and neglect due to his skin color and profession. He shared that many people even hesitate to shake hands with him after seeing his scarred, snake-bitten hands.

Highlighting the narrow-mindedness of some people, Suresh recalled emotional incidents of humiliation. Once, he was offered drinking water in a bathroom cup, and on another occasion during the Thiruonam festival, a close friend made him wait for nearly 45 minutes on the veranda just to buy a disposable cup to serve him payasam, avoiding their household glasses. Suresh quietly drank the dessert, folded the disposable cup, and disposed of it at his own home to avoid causing embarrassment. He noted that such experiences have caused him deep pain, leading him to spend his festive days at the Ananda Nilayam orphanage in Thiruvananthapuram.
