Trivandrum Mayor V V Rajesh Reacts to Bulldozer Mayor Tag and Vows Action Against Illegal Constructions

Following the recent demolition of illegal structures in Palayam Market using a JCB, Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Mayor V. V. Rajesh has stated that strict action will continue against unauthorized constructions. Responding to social media discussions labeling him as a “Bulldozer Mayor,” Rajesh emphasized that such measures are essential to protect law-abiding citizens and prevent the city from becoming a hub for lawbreakers.

The Mayor revealed that the demolition followed serious complaints of illegal extortion at the market. Investigations confirmed that certain groups were charging vendors up to 10 to 20 times the official corporation rates daily. Furthermore, despite the corporation covering water and electricity bills, vendors were being forced to pay ₹500 monthly just to use a single light bulb, with instances of their fish being confiscated if they failed to pay the extortion money.

Acknowledging that illegal constructions have accumulated over the past 40 to 45 years through various influences, Rajesh clarified that all actions are taken after proper legal verification. He assured that the eviction drive will continue systematically without any political bias, even though day-to-day administrative responsibilities mean the process will take time.
