Wild Elephant Blocks Minister Shibu Baby John Convoy in Athirappilly

A wild elephant, locally known as Chullikkomban, blocked the convoy of Minister Shibu Baby John at Charppalam near Athirappilly. The minister was traveling to attend an emergency high-level meeting convened to find a permanent solution to the severe wild elephant menace in the region. Clarifying some inaccurate media reports, the minister shared on Facebook that they did not chase the animal away, but instead waited patiently and silently for about 20 minutes until the elephant safely returned to the forest on its own.

The emergency meeting was called following the tragic death of Mohanan, a resident of Vetilappara, who was trampled to death by a wild elephant. To address the crisis, several key decisions were made, including the relocation of dangerous elephants to deep forests and the formation of a 100-member special task force. Additionally, the Wildlife Institute of India will study the carrying capacity of the forests, and advanced integrated defense systems utilizing AI tools and solar fencing will be deployed to protect local residents.
