Two women have been arrested for burning a civil police officer’s bullet motorcycle in Anchal, Kollam. The incident, initially suspected to be politically motivated, was revealed to be a personal vendetta after a failed marriage engagement.

The accused, Aarathi from Sooranad and Gayathri from Idukki, allegedly set fire to the bike belonging to Vivek, a police officer at the Aranmula station. They also poured kerosene on the house steps and left a threatening letter to mislead the investigation. The letter, written in the name of a student organization, was intended to divert suspicion. Police used technical evidence, including CCTV footage and a Google Pay transaction to an auto-rickshaw driver, to track down the suspects. The main accused, Aarathi, attempted suicide by consuming poison while in custody and has been moved to Parippally Medical College Hospital. Police are investigating whether anyone else assisted them.
