Social media influencer Fasmina Zakkeer is facing severe backlash online after she posted a video falsely accusing an auto-rickshaw driver of being drunk and misbehaving. The video, which went viral on Instagram, led to widespread public outrage against the influencer, prompting her to delete the video and set her account to private after the driver’s side of the story emerged.
The controversy began when Fasmina asked the driver to take her to a “Zudio” outlet. Unfamiliar with the brand, the driver misheard “Zudio” as “Studio” and innocently replied that there are many studios around, asking for clarification. Misinterpreting this, Fasmina recorded a video claiming the driver was heavily intoxicated, suggesting he should go home, and shared it online to defame him.
Following the viral post, a local YouTuber tracked down the driver to hear his side. The distressed driver, who bought the auto-rickshaw on a loan to support his family, revealed that the false allegations have ruined his livelihood, as customers now refuse to ride in his vehicle. He strongly denied the drinking allegations, challenging anyone to prove he was drunk in exchange for his auto-rickshaw and one lakh rupees. The revelation has sparked intense criticism against irresponsible social media influencers who target working-class individuals for views.
