An amusement park ride at Happy Land in Venjaramoodu, Thiruvananthapuram, collapsed on Sunday, injuring five people, including children. The accident occurred when the welding of the ride gave way at maximum speed, causing it to crash down. The injured were rushed to the Medical College Hospital, with one person suffering a leg fracture.
Witnesses and local residents reported that the park operated without basic safety measures. No seat belts or other safety equipment were in place, and the ride’s base was found to be loose due to poor maintenance. After the accident, the park management failed to stop other rides or evacuate visitors promptly.
Former minister G.R. Anil, who visited the site, stated that the park’s owner remains unidentified even after a previous fatal accident involving a child years ago. He noted that the park lacked an ambulance and essential first-aid facilities. Injured victims had to be transported to the hospital in a garbage vehicle, highlighting the park’s negligence.
