The highly anticipated ‘Priyadarshini Free Travel’ scheme, which offers free transit for women on KSRTC ordinary buses, has officially commenced. The initiative, which was a key election promise of the Congress party, was inaugurated at the Thampanoor Bus Terminal in Thiruvananthapuram at 8:30 AM on Monday by VD Satheesan. Following the inauguration, the first service commenced from Thampanoor, with dignitaries traveling alongside women passengers to mark the occasion.
To prevent confusion among passengers, eligible buses have been marked with special “Priyadarshini Free Travel” stickers, and City Fast buses feature distinct identifiers. While the travel is completely free for women, obtaining a “Zero Ticket” from the conductor is mandatory. Authorities have clarified that passengers found traveling without a Zero Ticket will face a fine of ₹500.
The free travel facility is applicable across seven categories of ordinary services, including Ordinary, City Ordinary, Limited Stop Ordinary, Town to Town, Fair State Limited Stop Ordinary, Point to Point Ordinary, and Gramavandi. Numerous ordinary services operate from key depots such as East Fort, Vikas Bhavan, Peroorkada, Pappanamcode, Attingal, Venjaramoodu, and Kattakada to facilitate this service.
