Syllabus revision and new criteria for Plus One seats: Minister N. Shamsudheen

Kerala Education Minister N. Shamsudheen has announced that significant changes will be introduced in the state’s education sector, including a timely revision of the school syllabus and new criteria to resolve the Plus One seat shortage. Speaking to MediaOne, the minister stated that the government has concrete plans to address the seat crisis systematically.

Regarding the syllabus, the minister noted that while the revision for classes 1 to 11 is complete, the upcoming Class 12 revision will mark the completion of one phase. To tackle the Plus One seat shortage, the government will shift from revenue district-based seat distribution to an educational district-based system. This ensures students in areas like Attappady or Nilambur do not have to travel far, matching the number of Plus One seats to the number of students passing SSLC within each educational district.

Minister Shamsudheen also welcomed the protests planned by student organizations over seat issues, stating they should focus on genuine student grievances rather than the ruling party’s interests. Addressing the recent controversy during the Plus Two results announcement, he clarified that it was merely a slip of the tongue which he corrected immediately, though social media chose to highlight only the error.
